CBACCI education structure


Numbers of ECTS mentioned may vary in different Universities.


I. International Master of Science Program (120 ECTS) in a) Atmospheric Sciences and b) Bio-geo-chemical cycles

- Responsible group pilot program lines:

a) University of Helsinki

b) Universities of Copenhagen, Göteborg and Lund

(maybe universities of Stockholm and Kuopio also)

- Other groups in CBACCI may join the program as they wish in they own time schedule

- The program in intended for students after a Bachelor of Science

- Master thesis (40 ECTS) is included in the program

- We will offer courses, seminars, workshops etc. around 100 ECTS from which one can select 80 ECTS

- Most CBACCI courses will be given in English and the aim is to arrange e-learning, field and intense courses, which are easier to attend than half a year courses. In most universities Bachelor level courses are, and will be, given in mother tongue.



II. Ph.D. Program (60 ECTS) + Ph.D. Thesis

We offer courses, seminars, workshops etc. of some 100 ECTS, from which a student can select 60 ECTS for their Ph.D. studies.



III. Courses, seminars, workshops, etc. offered

General Studies 30-50 ECTS

  • Preliminary plan:

    • 10-20 ECTS of e-learning, some intensive field courses, some half a year and local.

    • compulsory for all

  • Some general courses will be specified in at least one university, but they can be replaced with some similar courses. This will help future co-operation, of researchers from different research fields, and give common ground to student.

  2. Methodology, statistics (5 ECTS)

  3. Physics and Chemistry of air pollution and their effects, practical data analysis (5 ECTS)

  4. Environmental measurements techniques (5-10 ECTS)

    • fluxes and states in terrestrial ecosystems (5 ECTS)

    • aerosol and gas measurement techniques (5 ECTS)

  5. Forest-Atmosphere Interactions (5 ECTS)

  6. Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics (5+5 ECTS)

  7. Meteorology, atmospheric flows (5 ECTS)

  8. Atmospheric chemistry and aerosol physics for non specialists (5 ECTS)

  9. Earth system science in atmosphere perspective (basic course for all students in the beginning) (5 ECTS)

  10. Seminar in atmospheric sciences (5 ECTS)



Special Studies 20-50 ECTS

  1. Formation and transformation of atmospheric aerosols (6 ECTS)

  2. Air-Sea exchange (5-8 ECTS)

  3. Condensation and cloud microphysics (5 ECTS)

  4. Aerosol-cloud-climate interactions (5 ECTS)

  5. Up-scaling of land surface – atmosphere properties (5-10 ECTS)

  6. Arctic Air Pollution (3 ECTS)

  7. Carbon Balance and Biodiversity (3-10 ECTS)

  8. Carbon and nutrient dynamics in different ecosystems (3-10 ECTS)

  9. CBACCI workshops (3-5 ECTS)

  10. Ion and aerosol dynamics (2-5 ECTS)

  11. Climate politics for scientist (5 ECTS)
