An extra INAR seminar on Thursday 8th February at 14:15 in Physicum E204. The seminar will be given by Professor Joan Bech from the University of Barcelona, Spain and the title of the seminar is "Challenges and progress in weather radar quality control procedures at SMC". The abstract is below.
Challenges and progress in weather radar quality control procedures at SMC
Professor Joan Bech (University of Barcelona, Spain)
Quantitative applications of weather radar observations require the use of advanced quality control (QC) procedures, a topic of active research in the last decades. The presentation will describe results from a recent collaborative project between the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (SMC) and the University of Barcelona focused on the development and implementation of QC schemes for operational single polarisation Doppler radars. Two aspects will be covered: the assessment of the radar antenna pointing accuracy, by comparing three different methods and their possibly synergy; and the correction of dual-PRF velocity outliers, illustrated with both simulated data and real severe storms observations.
