EUCAARI was a EU 6th Framework Programme Integrated Project on aerosol, cloud, climate and air quality interactions
The knowledge on emissions of European primary aerosol particles was increased by compiling a first aerosol number concentration based emission inventory. Particular attention has been given to the spatial distribution of transport emission and emission due to residential combustion. This enabled the EUCAARI project to simulate realistic number size distributions and compare the secondary aerosol production produced CCN concentrations to primary emissions. Additionally, an European inventory on carbonaceous (carbon-containing) aerosol emissions was developed and the differences between elemental and organic carbon emission rates was established.
In addition to emission inventory development, the EUCAARI primary emission work created new parameterizations for sea-salt aerosol particle emissions, biomass burning emissions and methods to scale the emission factors for multiple scales of models.
