International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (IEAS) European Centre is located at the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR), University of Helsinki. The Centre is lead by Academician Professor Markku Kulmala. IEAS-Europe represents an interdisciplinary research platform involving leading scholars from European countries. Current activities  of IEAS-Europe focus on research and education in environmental sciences, but prospectively the focus area will be extended to a wide range of exact sciences and the humanities.

Bert Holtslag nomination

Professor Bert Holtslag is the 1st Sergej Zilitinkevich memorial award winner. Bert Holtslag is Emeritus Professor of Meteorology and former Chair of Meteorology and Air Quality Section at Wageningen University in the Netherlands (period 1999-2019). Bert Holtslag has a large track record in research and leadership of national and international projects and programs dealing with weather, air quality, and climate process studies and modeling. His most notable contributions are related to understanding of atmosphere-land interactions, surface fluxes, and boundary layer processes, with implications to wind energy and urban meteorology. Read more.


CALL FOR NOMINATIONS Sergej Zilitinkevich memorial award, open 1st – 31st Oct.2021. The award is an international award that will be delivered annually to a creative scientist who has made breakthroughs in atmospheric sciences or oceanography. Nominations for the award are openly selected within international research networks, particularly those related to Zilitinkevich's activities. The registration opened for the Atmospheric and Climate Competence Center (ACCC) Impact Week. The PEEX is one of the co-organizers of this event. The ACCC Impact Week brings together ACCC research partners and stakeholders to discuss and co-design science-based solutions for safe climate and clean air, and to increase interaction and collaboration on national and international levels. The Impact Week will take place during 7-10 December 2021 in Helsinki at the Sofia Cultural Center in Vuosaari ( You are welcome to participate in this hybrid event either by attending the on-site event (max 200 participants), or by following the online streaming.
