Prof. \u00a0Aijun Ding, School of Atmospheric Sciences at Nanjing University<\/a>\u00a0received the S. Zilitinkevich Memorial Award 2024 at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the European Meteorological Sociaty (EMS) in Barcelona on 4th \u00a0September. The award was presented by Academician Markku Kulmala from the University of Helsinki. As a part of the award ceremony Ding gave his lecture on \u201cInteractions of Atmospheric Chemistry and Atmospheric Boundary Layer: From Megacity to Gigacity\u201d.<\/div>\n

Prof. Ding was awarded for his extraordinary contributions to the understanding of aerosol- planetary boundary layer interactions and their impact on air quality and climate change.<\/div>\n
He has co-authored 230 peer-reviewed journal papers with 14926 citations and an h index of 62 (WoS).<\/div>\n
Since 2020 he has also been ranked as a \u201cHighly Cited Researcher\u201d (WoS).<\/div>\n
Building the flagship Station for Observing Regional Processes of the Earth System (SORPES) and<\/div>\n
performing long-term measurements in the western Yangtze River Delta,<\/div>\n
Aijun has found that severe air pollution from agricultural straw burning mixed with urban pollution<\/div>\n
can change the weather by lowering the air temperature by more than 10 degrees and changing<\/div>\n
the rainfall intensity and pattern due to the aerosols\u2019 effect on the surface flux and stratification of the PBL.<\/div>\n
The study published in Atmos. Chem. Phys. (Ding et al., 2013) received over 330 citations (GS) and<\/div>\n
was ranked as an ESI \u201chighly cited paper\u201d (WoS).<\/div>\n<\/div>
