The organizers are the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.helsinki.fi\/en\/inar\">INAR<\/a>) and The Doctoral Programme in Science at the University of Helsinki, the Nordic Graduate School \u201cBiosphere-Carbon-Aerosol-Cloud-Climate Interactions\u201d (CBACCI), Nordic Master\u2019s Degree Programme \u201cAtmosphere-Biosphere-Studies\u201d (ABS), Integrated Land Ecosystem \u2013 Atmosphere Process Study (<a href=\"https:\/\/ileaps.org\/\">iLEAPS<\/a>), The Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.acccflagship.fi\/\">ACCC<\/a>), The Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actris.eu\/\">ACTRIS<\/a>), and Pan-Eurasian EXperiment (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.atm.helsinki.fi\/peex\">PEEX<\/a>) programme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Summer school topics that will be covered include the following:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Atmospheric aerosols<\/li>\n<li>Atmospheric observations of aerosol formation and growth<\/li>\n<li>Aerosol particle formation mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>Thermodynamics of aerosol formation<\/li>\n<li>Aerosol dynamics: condensation, coagulation, deposition, general dynamic equation<\/li>\n<li>Aerosols, clouds and climate<\/li>\n<li>Large-scale modelling of atmospheric aerosol<\/li>\n<li>Gaseous precursors of atmospheric aerosols and their chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Laboratory investigations of nucleation and nanoparticle growth<\/li>\n<li>Computational methods related to particle formation<\/li>\n<li>Instrumentation to detect particles<\/li>\n<li>Analysis of new particle formation events<\/li>\n<li>Secondary aerosols and air quality<\/li>\n<li>Secondary organic aerosol and aerosol mass spectrometry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During 10-day course, participants (PhD students and advanced MSc students in atmospheric sciences) will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental theories of new particle formation. The program also includes introductions to, as well as state-of-the-art insights into, mass spectrometry, regional and global modelling, and quantum chemistry calculations. The course is carefully designed to provide a strong foundation to start or further advance participants\u2019 journey in atmospheric science.
