<\/span><\/div>The Erasmus+ \u201cEMPOwer ANDES societies to improve adaptation to climate change through cocreation of climate services<\/em>\u201d project (EMPOANDES; http:\/\/empoandes.eu<\/a>; 1 December 2025 \u2013 30 November 2028) is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. It is coordinated by the Prof. Enric Aguilar and project manager Dr. Jon Xavier Olano Pozo from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Institute of University for Research in Sustainability, Climate Change, and Energy Transition (URV- IU-RESCAT, Spain). The consortium includes 16 Partners from Europe (Spain, Greece, Finland) and from the Latin America (Ecuador, Peru, Columbia, and Chile). The project website is bi-lingual (in English and Spanish languages).<\/p>\n EMPOANDES Objective <\/strong>is to develop official education actions at different levels for students, professionals and citizens of the Andean Region of the Latin America, which is one of the most sensitive areas to climate variability and change. Climate change is modifying the occurrence of extreme events, such as extreme precipitation, floods, droughts, cold waves or heatwaves, and their associated impacts.<\/p>\n EMPOANDES will<\/strong>:<\/p>\n EMPOANDES Main Activities (January \u2013 September 2026)<\/strong><\/p>\n After the EMPOANDES project kick-off-meeting<\/a> which took place in a hybrid mode during 20-22 January 2026 (Quito, Ecuador) and was hosted by the Universidad de las Americas (UDLA), the UHEL team established own webpage<\/a> for the EMPOANDES project and linked it to the main website<\/a>.<\/p>\n EMPOANDES WorkPackages (WPs) are: WP1 on \u201cProject Management and Coordination<\/em>\u201d; WP2 on \u201cDefinition of High Education Institutions and Community Needs<\/em>\u201d; WP3: on \u201cCurricula Development<\/em>\u201d; WP4 on \u201cStaff Capacity Building<\/em>\u201d; WP5 on \u201cPiloting Capacity Development and Community Empowerment<\/em>\u201d; and WP6 on \u201cDissemination and Communication<\/em>\u201d. The recent Deliverables (as reports) are publicly available: D1.1<\/a> \u201cProject Handbook<\/em>\u201d; D1.2<\/a> \u201cQuality Data and Monitoring Plan<\/em>\u201d; D1.3<\/a> \u201cKick-off Report<\/em>\u201d; and D6.1<\/a> \u201cCommunication and Dissemination Plan<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n The capacity building<\/a> is realised through national workshops and specialized training sessions as events. The co-design workshop<\/a> on \u201cShaping Climate Services Educational Strategy<\/em>\u201d was held during 18-19 June 2026 in Bogota, Columbia. The co-design workshop<\/a> on \u201cEcuador Advances in Strengthening Climate Services<\/em>\u201d was held during 15-16 July 2026 in Quito, Ecuador. Two more co-design workshops are planned also in Peru and Chile.<\/p>\n Specialized 5 training modules are planned. These high-level training modules are aligned with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) competencies: (1) \u201cFundamental competencies for climate services<\/em>\u201d, (2) \u201cData management and climate modeling tools<\/em>\u201d; (3) \u201cSector-specific impact analysis methodologies<\/em>\u201d; (4) \u00a0\u201cCommunication and user engagement strategies<\/em>\u201d, and (5) \u201cSustainability and policy integration<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n The latest news is available at the \u201cNews and updates<\/a>\u201d webpage of the project & disseminated through the LikedIN social network<\/a>. In particular, the latest regional workshop<\/a> on \u201cEMPOANDES Expands Regional Synergies at the ENANDES+\u201d<\/em> took place during 25-28 August 2026 in Asunci\u00f3n, Paraguay.
