UNAVEX Launches First Virtual Exchange Day with Over 200 Students

On February 24, UNAVEX successfully launched its first Virtual Exchange (VE) Day. The VE week program consists of five interactive sessions, each lasting about three hours. Participants use DigiCampus, a dedicated online platform, to access course materials and submit assignments for credit.

Initially, over 2,000 students from universities in Europe and Africa expressed interest in participating in the course, but 350 went on to complete the official registration and confirming their participation. On the opening day, the Zoom session peaked at 222 participants.

The event was chaired by Prof. Lee-Ann Modley from the University of Johannesburg. The session featured a presentation on the UNAVEX Sustainable Advocate program by Prof. Salomon Derese from the University of Nairobi. Students also received instructions on the “Sustainability Action” group work, including assignment details and credit requirements. The day concluded with small group discussions in Zoom break-out rooms, led by trained moderators.

The UNAVEX Virtual Exchange aims to connect students worldwide and deepen their understanding of sustainability.  Upcoming VE Sessions and topics:

  • March 7, 2025 – Sustainable Development in Politics
  • March 14, 2025 – Ecological Sustainability
  • March 21, 2025 – Social and Economic Sustainability
  • March 28, 2025 – Cultural Sustainability

We hear invited speeches related to the topic. For example, on March 7, we will hear the speech of the former president of Finland, Tarja Halonen.

The next Virtual Exchange Week will be held in the fall semester of 2025. Stay tuned !
