Project Description

The AASCO / PEEX project and the ACCC Flagship were represented at the Polar Symposium hosted by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in Monaco on 25–27 February.

The symposium continued discussions initiated at the AASCO Symposium held in February 2025 (https://www.atm.helsinki.fi/peex/index.php/portfolio-items/4th-aasco-event-in-2025/). The AASCO event was hosted and coordinated by the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) at the University of Helsinki.

The Monaco symposium brought together a broad range of Arctic and Antarctic research organizations, including the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC), along with leading researchers and stakeholders. Participants discussed observation and research priorities in preparation for the upcoming Polar Year 2032–2033.

Key themes of the symposium included International Collaboration in Times of UncertaintyFunding Equality and New Models, and concrete steps toward new Flagship Initiatives and their Implementation. In the coming months, the full Symposium Report will be shared.
