Project Description

From 10 to 14 November 2025, the Faculty of Hydrometeorology and Ecology at Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University hosted the seminar “Standardization of Training Courses, Digital Tools, and Mutual Expertise” within the framework of the international Erasmus+ ClimEd project. The event served as an important platform for advancing methodological approaches to climate education and strengthening cooperation among Ukrainian and European partner institutions.
The seminar was formally opened by Mr. Svyatoslav Tyuryakov, ClimEd Project Manager representing the University of Helsinki (Finland), and Dr. Jon Xavier Olano Pozo from Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain), who is responsible for course development.
The seminar was attended by representatives of all Ukrainian partner institutions within the ClimEd consortium, including:
- Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University,
- O. M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv,
- Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture,
- Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University,
- Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Throughout the five days of the programme, participants engaged with a wide range of topics central to contemporary climate education and professional training. Expert presentations addressed the drivers of global climate change, the principles and techniques of climate system modelling, and the assessment of climate-related vulnerabilities in key economic sectors. Considerable attention was devoted to the pedagogical dimension of course development, including the principles of adult learning, approaches to structuring educational modules, and methods for standardizing course content across institutions. The role of modern digital tools in enhancing the quality and interactivity of educational materials was also highlighted.
A practical component of the seminar was implemented through a structured QGIS training session, which enabled participants to develop skills in climate data processing, spatial analysis, map preparation, and territorial vulnerability assessment. These competencies are essential for the development of climate services and for effective planning of climate adaptation measures.
The concluding sessions of the seminar were dedicated to synthesizing the outcomes of the week’s work and determining the next steps in the standardization of ClimEd training courses. Participants emphasized the importance of establishing a coherent methodological framework across partner institutions and enhancing the accessibility, consistency, and academic quality of the training materials. Discussions also addressed mechanisms for continued collaboration, including peer review procedures and coordinated approaches to joint course development.
Overall, the seminar represented a significant contribution to the advancement of evidence-based climate education in Ukraine. By promoting unified methodological standards, integrating innovative digital tools, and strengthening international academic cooperation, the event furthered the objectives of the ClimEd project and supported the development of a more resilient, climate-informed professional environment in the country.
