Project Description

The annual Call for Applications to the International Max Planck Research School on Earth System Modelling (IMPRS-ESM) is open for PhD candidates. The IMPRS-ESM is a joint program by the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the University of Hamburg.

Since 2001, the structured doctoral program provides an interdisciplinary infrastructure to PhD candidates from different parts of the world, such that they can advance their academic training and complete a doctoral thesis within 3 years. Doctoral candidates contribute to the understanding of the Earth system through the application, evaluation and development of a spectrum of Earth system models at different levels of complexity and at various spatial and temporal scales. Emphasizing the physical system, the IMPRS-ESM encompasses the broader field of Earth sciences, including economics and social sciences.

The IMPRS-ESM strives to attract a diversity of talented young students from all nationalities to research in the Earth system sciences.
