Project Description

NordForsk Call on “Nordic research networks within natural science and related engineering fields”

The Call aim is (1) to facilitate collaboration between scientists with clear potential for synergies within the Nordic countries and bolster the international competitiveness, innovative nature, and ground-breaking potential of Nordic research, and (2) to encourage the next generation of early-stage Nordic researchers (up to 7 years after completion of PhD) to create new or tighter links across national and discipline borders and build strong collegial networks with a decisive impact on future careers and research trajectories. Network activities should include a strong component in the training (summer schools and similar ones for PhD students and PostDocs) of the next generation of researchers with interdisciplinary skills in natural sciences and related engineering topics in the Nordic countries. To ensure the novelty of the network, the network’s researchers should not have existing active collaboration. The application should contain a description of the interdisciplinary potential of combining the included fields. The Call covers networks within the disciplines of astronomy, physics, chemistry, mathematics, computer science, molecular biology, biochemistry/biophysics, biology, geology, the natural science aspects of geography, and foundation-creating research within technology, engineering, and production sciences.

Deadline: 14 August 2025

NordForsk Call on “Indigenous guidelines for NordForsk”

There are several guidelines and roadmaps that support researchers in conducting research involving Indigenous people and help Indigenous people to become aware of their rights as participants of research. Such guidelines are crucially needed for enhancing Indigenous peoples’ self-determination in relation to knowledge production. However, there is a lack of common guidelines for Indigenous research in the Nordic countries. There is, therefore, a need to map and review the guidelines in the Nordic countries and in Canada.

The project funded under the Call will produce a report for the Nordic Working Group. The report will support the formulation of the Nordic guidelines for research involving Indigenous people. The project tasks are: (1) to review the existing guidelines and make constructive comparisons when developing guidelines for research involving Indigenous people; (2) to scan new and emerging trends in guidelines for research involving Indigenous people; (3) to write recommendations for guidelines for research involving Indigenous people; and (4) to draft a toolkit to implement the Nordic guidelines for research involving Indigenous people.
