Project Description

The PEEX hybrid (online/ onsite – Sofia Cultural Center, Vuosaari, Helsinki, Finland) seminar took place on 11 April 2024. This event was organised as a part of the 3rd ACCC (The Atmosphere and Climate Competence Center; https://www.acccflagship.fi) Impact Week (8-12 Apr 2024; see detailed agenda at https://www.acccflagship.fi/index.php/3rd-accc-impact-week-2024). More than 40 participants attended the PEEX hybrid meeting, with majority of participants attending online. The participants were from more than 25 different Universities, research institutes/ organizations and companies from Armenia, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, Switzerland, and Ukraine. The main aims of this meeting were: (i) to introduce the research and educational activities at new PEEX partner universities, and (ii) to discuss future collaboration in a frame of climate change and air quality research.

The PEEX seminar opened with an introductory talk on Grand Challenges (by Acad. Prof. Markku Kulmala) and PEEX programme overview (by Dr. Hanna K. Lappalainen). New members (Universities and Research Institutes) of the PEEX community delivered talks about general overviews, research and educational activities at their organizations. In particular, these talks were delivered by members of the Yerevan State University (Armenia), Chernivtsi National University (Ukraine), University of Tartu (Estonia), Latvia University (Latvia), Kyiv National University of Building and Architecture (Ukraine), Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University (Ukraine), The Arctic University of Norway – University of Tromso (Norway), Institute of Mathematical
Machines and Systems Problems (Ukraine), Kyiv Academic University (Ukraine), Yarmouk University (Jordan), University of Copenhagen (Denmark). These talks were followed by presentations from PEEX programme partners: from the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals, Aerospace Information Research Institute Chinese Academy of Sciences (China), Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute (Ukraine), Estonian University of Life Sciences (Estonia), and Odessa State Environmental University (Ukraine).

At the end of the meeting, a possibility towards writing a joint proposal (COST Action for PEEX collaboration) for the COST funding was outlined.
