|The 2nd Internal Workshop on Observations and Understanding of Changes in High Mountain and Cold Regions (HiMAC2018) will be held on October 29–30, 2018 at Arctic Space Centre of the Finnish Meteorological Institute, located in Sodankylä, Finland. The workshop will bring together scientists from fields of Earth Observations, Meteorology, Climatology, Ecology and Biogeochemistry to discuss various in situ and satellite observations, data post processing, physical and biological processes that contribute to environmental changes over high mountain and cold regions on Earth. |The 3rd Conference of Digital Belt and Road (DBAR 2018) will be held 5–7 December 2018 at Tengchong, Yunnan, China. The conference will host several specialized sessions examining the applications of big Earth data for sustainable development in different fields, such as environmental change, disaster mitigation, water resources, agriculture food security, natural and cultural heritage, coast and marine, urban and infrastructure, High Mountain and Arctic, and the need for big Earth data in solving large-scale regional and global problems. |On the 18–19.May.2018, The Cyprus Institute hosted the International Summit-Conference Climate Change in the Mediterranean and the Middle East: Challenges and Solutions. The conference addressed the scientific basis of Climate Change in the region, its various impacts and challenges, mitigation/adaptation strategies, policy challenges and governance. The Conference was preceded by two days of Scientific Workshops focused on modelling predictions of Climate Change and its impacts – especially in the areas of sustainability, energy, health, agriculture, water security and migration – as well as examine and propose mitigation and adaptation strategies. In the Workshop Dr. Hanna Lappalainen gave a presentation of PEEX as an example of high impact research network. INAR/University of Helsinki is participating the EU Teaming project coordinated by Cypros Inst. and is interested in developing SMEAR type station in Cypros. PEEX "Pan-Eurasian Experiment" study is a multidisciplinary climate change, air quality, environment and research infrastructure program focused on the Northern Eurasian particularly arctic and boreal regions. It is a bottom up initiative by several European, Russian and Chinese research organizations and institutes. PEEX is open for new institutes to join in.
