The “Arena for the gap analysis of the existing Arctic Science Co-Operations” (AASCO) project, 2023-2025, is a continuation and extension for the AASCO project funded by the Prince Albert Foundation in 2020-2022 (N°2858). The AASCO process is focused on the understanding the land-ocean-atmosphere feedback and interactions taking place in Arctic-boreal context and region under changing climate. In the previous project we focused on the understanding the land-ocean-atmosphere feedback and interactions taking place in Arctic-boreal context, a region under changing climate. We analysed the Arctic-boreal research gaps, the problems that have not been answered by any of the existing studies or research in this field.

AASCO-2 project in 2023-2025 aims to meet following issues and challenges:

  • to further connect and consolidate the existing research communities interested in the feedback analysis: the current academic communities in the field of Arctic ocean, ecosystem and atmospheric research are still working quite separately. In order to find solutions to climate change we need to have also a cross disciplinary, integrative and holistic vision, implementation
  • to communicate with different stakeholders, e.g. European Commission, on research funding in this field: we need to bring up the relevance of the holistic approach to the research funders more actively.
  • to ensure the open data availability in the Arctic under changing geopolitical situation and bring together different actors providing data for the feedback analysis: data gap due to suspended collaboration with Russia and to find a way forward with data availability in the Arctic region is one of the most urgent questions
