The University of Helsinki has formalized the CLUVEX virtual exchange valid one credit per week

The University of Helsinki has formalized the validity of ECTS credits for the planned CLUVEX Virtual Exchange (VE) Weeks for students. Participation in the VE Week corresponds to 1 ECTS.

So, now all students and moderators, also outside the University of Helsinki, who will participate in the CLUVEX VE Week can get one credit point when they will register for such event through the Open University.

We are still looking for volunteers who are interested to become the moderators during CLUVEX VE Weeks for students. Persons who will attend a series of online trainings (in total 5) will be awarded an internship certificate. The first interactive online training for the moderators will take place on May 8, 2024. The first CLUVEX VE Week for students will take place during October 14-18, 2024. The University of Helsinki plans to open registration through the Open University for the VE Week before the summer, in August at the latest. Further information will follow soon.

CLUVEX VE Week for students – Learning outcomes:

  • Basics of the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and anthroposphere interaction and feedbacks
  • Basics of Climate Change based on latest science: Planetary boundaries concept, Last methodological tools used in observing the Earth System.
  • Understanding of the human role from different perspectives like ethical, social, different cultural backgrounds in climate change, adaptation, and mitigation advances.
  • Critically reflect owns views on climate change, sustainability, and create new visions.
  • Reflect different international and intercultural perspectives on climate change and sustainability.
  • Reflect about global versus local challenges in finding adaptation and mitigation solutions.
  • Work together in different online working environments.
  • Work and be part of an international teams and manage small joint projects.
  • Communicate and present their work in English.
  • Learning basic study skills such as use of open data, literature search, critical reading and thinking.

CLUVEX VE Week for students – Content:

  • The course consists of plenary talks, group exercise, joint discussions.
  • Plenary talks on:
    • Introduction of Earth systems and interactions between different spheres.
    • Introduction of society related impacts of climate change.
  • Examples of the latest tools to be used in the group exercise:
    • observing Earth systems, modelling, predictive models e.g., used for IPCC scenarios, models for mitigation and adaptation (including local socio-economic statistics).
  • Introduction to different virtual-education tools.
