CLUVEX Training #4 for Moderators

The CLUVEX Training #4 for moderators took place online on 5th September 2024. More than 40 moderators attended the online training. The main focus was placed on introduction of content and main topics of the CLUVEX guidebooks developed as e-living documents for students and moderators who will participate in the VE Weeks. These include the VEG (Virtual Exchange Guidebook), the CLG (Climate Literacy Guidebook), and the Climate Messenger Code of Conduct (CMC).

VEG includes aspects on importance and challenges of VE in climate education and training, CLUVEX project as a reference for the lessons learnt on VEs, planning and implementation of VEs, incl. key considerations for planning VE (incl. work organization, education, students, moderators, technical e-setups, evaluation, assessment, studying and developing VE concept, science communication and scaling up).

CLG includes aspects on how to use the guidebook, VE Week (programme, lectures, tools, group exercise, questionaries), lectures’ short description, tools for visualisation and analysis of climate related data, climate change related concepts and terminology , as well as appendixes (incl. recommended reading, environmental data visualization tools and databases, description of the CLUVEX VE Week – as a course, and Climate University online courses).

CMC includes aspects of the CLUVEX Climate Messenger’s education material and exercise, code of conduct during Climate Messenger education, instructions for interaction and communication during the VE Week, instructions for unexpected situations, code of conduct as Climate Messengers after CLUVEX project completed.

After introduction of each guidebook, discussions in separate virtual rooms took place among participants. These focused on understanding the concept of VE in a same way, possible difficulties in understanding by students who do not have a natural science background, and biggest challenges which might be expected during VE Week when work is realised in multi-background groups. Miro tool was used for sharing ideas, comments, suggestions, etc. among the participants.

The next 5th training for moderators is planned online on 12th September. This training is about the group exercise “Climate Horizon”, and tools (ERA-5 Explorer, IPCC web-based atlas, SSP pathways) to visualise and analyse climate related data.
